Description

FBF42 Stainless Steel Blind Rivets 1/8″ diameter with 1/8″ grip

FBF42 stainless steel blind rivets are made from 300 series stainless steel alloys, which are rust resistant and for the most part non-magnetic. These 1/8″ diameter open end blind rivets have a 1/4″ diameter low profile dome head and a material grip range from 1/16″ thin to 1/8″ thick. The recommended application hole should be between 0.129 to 0.133 inches. We suggest using a #30 drill bit and try drill a straight hole without wiggling the drill. You can also use a 1/8″ drill bit however keep in mind you don’t want to make the application hole over-sized. The application thickness should be within the material grip range of the specific size rivet you are using. Otherwise the rivet may not perform as it design intended. Similar to trying to fit a round peg into a square hole. If your application is 1/2″ thick, a rivet like this one is far too short and won’t work as it’s intended to in something as thick as 1/2″.FBF43-1.jpg
Applications for FBF42 stainless steel blind rivets can range from commercial and home owner appliances to industrial building products.
Galvanic corrosion should always be a concern when designing or riveting applications together. Galvanic corrosion problems should be solved by designing to avoid these problems in the first place. One of the basic solutions is to avoid dissimilar materials or metals being used to fasten or rivet the application together. If you are fastening aluminum sheets or panels to an aluminum frame, then use aluminum rivets to fasten the aluminum sheets to the aluminum frame. If you’re building a stainless steel exhaust hood in a commercial or home kitchen. You may wish to use stainless steel rivets to keep the base metals similar. By keeping the basic materials the same, all aluminum, all stainless steel etc. at the very least you are avoiding introducing dissimilar metals, which can lead to premature or galvanic corrosion. By using any of our all stainless steel rivets, in this case our FBF42 stainless steel blind rivets you can accomplish the goal of all stainless steel components. In addition to keeping with the same base metals, by introducing coatings to the components, in this case our FBF42 stainless steel blind rivets are finished with a durable epoxy based painted finish. You are enhancing the resistance to galvanic corrosion due to the paint acting as an insulator between what ever it’s fastening. If you aluminum panels or sheets are also coated with a non-metallic paint it can act as an additional insulator layer.
Being one of the few manufacturer’s in the United States. Our colored rivets like these FBF42 stainless steel blind rivets are specially prepared to achieve optimum paint adhesion and durability. We utilize an epoxy based paint primer, which provides very good color and the ability to color match almost any customer color request. An important feature of our colored rivets is we have the ability to paint ONLY the rivet body and NOT the pulling mandrel, (nail). This is the absolute optimum method for painting blind rivets. Otherwise paint “over-spray” ends up coating the mandrel, (nail). When the mandrel has paint and/or plating on it’s surface, it can cause unnecessary tool maintenance. The tool may have frequent failures due to the excess paint chips that occur when the tool’s jaws bite into the mandrel to pull or “set” the blind rivet.
300 Series stainless steels are resistant to corrosion widely used in industrial, commercial, marine and home owner applications. Stainless Steel is usually more costly to make, therefore more expensive to buy when compared to other base metals. These 300 series grades of stainless have chromium (approx. 18 to 30%) and nickel (approx. 6 to 20%) as their major alloying additions. Type 304 stainless steel may be the most widely used alloy of all stainless steels. 300 Series Stainless steel alloys resist corrosion, maintain their strength at high temperatures and are easy to maintain as a finish product. Typically we utilize one or more of these common grades of the 300 series. From 302 to 305 type stainless steel alloys. Each have their own unique properties and for the most part are non-magnetic.
