ABA42 mill finish 1/8″ x 1/8″ made in USA Blind Rivets, often referred to as pop or open end blind rivets are designed to be used in the following application conditions: 1) Hole Size: #30 drill size for 0.129 to 0.133 hole diameter 2)Grip range 1/16″ to 1/8″) = 0.062″ to 0.125″ for a #42 size. The “Grip range” is the total thickness of the application materials to be fastened by the rivet. Our ABA42 mill finish 1/8″ x 1/8″ made in USA Blind Rivets will perform best when used in the above conditions. If your application conditions are not exactly as above, don’t worry too much as our rivets are designed to allow for slightly less than optimum application conditions. We also can provide our Ultimate Multi-Grip family of rivets, which have additional features to allow applications to vary well beyond the above suggestions and still perform. Over-sized hole is no problem, Grip range varies below the recommended minimum is also not a problem for our Ultimate Multi-Grip rivets. Use our search feature for item ABS4246urr Black and you’ll find one of our easiest to use, application criteria forgiving, and tightest clamping rivets available. Our family of Ultimate Multi-Grip rivets grip from paper thin up to 3/8“ thickness for this 4246 size.
Galvanic corrosion should always be a concern when designing or riveting applications together. Galvanic corrosion problems should be solved by designing to avoid these problems in the first place. One of the basic solutions is to avoid dissimilar materials or metals being used to fasten or rivet the application together. If you are fastening aluminum sheets or panels to an aluminum frame, then use aluminum rivets to fasten the aluminum sheets to the aluminum frame. By keeping the basic materials the same, all aluminum, at the very least you are avoiding introducing dissimilar metals, which can lead to premature or galvanic corrosion. By using any of our all aluminum rivets, in this case our ABA42 mill finish 1/8″ x 1/8″ made in USA Blind Rivets you can accomplish the goal of all aluminum components. In addition to keeping with the same base metals, by introducing coatings to the components, in this case our ABA42 mill finish 1/8″ x 1/8″ made in USA Blind Rivets are finished with a durable epoxy based painted finish. You are enhancing the resistance to galvanic corrosion due to the paint acting as an insulator between what ever it’s fastening. If you aluminum panels or sheets are also coated with a non-metallic paint it can act as an additional insulator layer.
ABA42 mill finish 1/8″ x 1/8″ made in USA Blind Rivets are designed to be plain, mill finish. As the fully capable manufacturer, they can also become colored rivets because we control all the required processes in Connecticut. We don’t have to worry about lengthily lead times or communication issues with people who don’t speak English as their native language. Be cautious of rivets that show paint “over-spray” on the nail/mandrel are a tell tale sign you are NOT buying factory direct colored rivets. Don’t settle for after thought paint as the paint “over spray” on the nail may lead to premature rivet gun problems as the paint on the nails clogs up the tool mechanism. As the manufacturer, our colored rivets are specially prepared before they are painted to achieve optimum paint adhesion and durability. We utilize an epoxy based paint primer, which provides very good colors and the ability to color match almost any customer color request. From flat black to brilliant Blues our colored rivets will look just the way you want them to from the day you install them to many years after. An important feature of our colored rivets is we have the ability to paint ONLY the rivet body and NOT the pulling mandrel, (nail). This is the absolute optimum method for painting blind rivets. Otherwise paint “over-spray” ends up coating the mandrel, (nail). When the mandrel has paint and/or plating on it’s surface, it can cause unnecessary tool maintenance. The tool may have frequent failures due to the excess paint chips that occur when the tool’s jaws bite into the mandrel to pull or “set” the blind rivet. This can be especially troublesome when pulling aluminum rivet mandrels as the tool’s jaws are hardened steel and will “bite” into the softer aluminum mandrel material. If there is any paint over-spray on the aluminum mandrels where the jaws “bite”. The result could very well be paint chips, which may collect in the jaws teeth and/or the tools moving parts causing maintenance issues.
